Cattani masterfully employs a split-frame composition to juxtapose two realities of Uruguay. On one side, the rustic, tranquil simplicity of the countryside: a lone tree and a grazing cow under a vast sky. On the other, the geometric, impersonal structures of urban architecture. The dividing line is sharp, yet the sky above is continuous, suggesting these two worlds coexist under the same national identity. The photograph invites contemplation on progress, preservation, and the internal dialogue between the traditional and the modern within a developing nation.
“Most of my works are about wandering characters in rural Uruguay, showcasing our real country. Showcasing our country, our rivers, and our people. Not all work is limited to this, and some photos may also be urban.”
